how we spent our easter weekend…
While the rest of the country slowly woke to a sunny (shocker!) Good Friday - the Redgate IT team were several hours into a critical move for a long-running client to the newest completed Data Centre.
It’s All In The Planning
We hired vans, completed relevant training and risk assessments, and the team took an opportunity to stretch before the lifting began.
Our Director, Stuart, laid out the agenda for the day having hatched a game plan over several weeks - everyone knew their role and most importantly, everyone was ready!
MOVING DAY
Servers were removed from dusty, old cabinets - wiped over, given some TLC, and meticulously wrapped to transport to the Data Centre.
We transported the cargo as though it were a newborn baby. The team had never so carefully negotiated London’s roads before, grateful so many were too busy tucking into Easter eggs to be out on the streets, making the journey relatively straightforward (and quiet).
the data centre
Once at the Data Centre, the team delicately unpacked the cargo from the transportation vans, placed it on trolleys, and a forklift operated by a professional took these critical pieces of equipment up to the first floor.
Servers were unloaded and were now ready to be settled into their new home.
Getting Stuck In
The team could now get their hands dirty, configuring the equipment into its safe, secure and environmentally friendly new home.
“It’s like moving house”, one Redgate team member commented - slumped over a trolley!
Highs
A successful move. Let’s be honest; that’s the only reasonable outcome here. We held our breath, turned everything back on and tested everything to within an inch of its life over the next day. The planning, deliberating, practice runs etc., were well worth it.
Lows
Sustenance - unfortunately, the Data Centre location was hardly surrounded by delectable cuisine options; no Easter eggs to be found and believe me, the team hunted!
Conclusion
From This…
TO ThiS!
Our Client now has the peace of mind that their data is safe, secure, and retrievable. Our data centres are helping build a more sustainable future by transitioning to 100 per cent renewable energy derived from the wind, sun, and sea. Our data centre was one of the first data centre operators in the UK to do so. As a result, they are among Europe's greenest facilities, assisting our clients and us in lowering our carbon impact - read more about this in our blog.
You cannot over-plan, and although at points we wondered if that was exactly what we were doing, the proof is, shall we say - in the pudding Easter egg and we are entirely grateful to whoever or whatever was watching over us during the Easter weekend!
